I'm learning Lithuanian. Help me improve
We invite businesses in Vilnius to join this initiative and help create a city where learning Lithuanian is easier and more encouraging. Print this sticker or card and encourage visitors to take their time before switching to a foreign language – let's encourage people to speak Lithuanian. Let's help this idea spread across Vilnius. Sometimes, simple support and everyday conversations become the strongest motivation to learn and speak more.
Why is it worth learning Lithuanian?

A growing community
Vilnius is a city that welcomes everyone who wants to live, work, and grow here. The capital is now home to over 78,000 residents of foreign origin, and the number keeps rising. As the community grows, mutual understanding becomes essential – and language is one of its most important tools.

Language brings people together
Knowing the basics of Lithuanian not only makes it easier to connect with others, share experiences, and become part of the community, but also allows you to take full advantage of all the opportunities offered by Vilnius as a multicultural city.

Learning is engaging
Learning a new language may seem complicated, but the key is to explore the different ways to learn: from academic courses to informal meetups, practical workshops, or self-study resources. Everyone can find the option that suits them best – the important thing is to get started!

Your words, your city
Every word we learn opens the door to new connections, positive experiences, and full participation in city life. Knowing a language allows us not only to express ourselves but also to contribute to building a stronger community. We can help make Vilnius a city where everyone feels at home.
Lithuanian language proficiency assessment
Foreign-born residents planning to live and work in Lithuania may, in certain cases, be required to take a Lithuanian language exam to assess their language proficiency. For more information, click here.
Why should you take the Lithuanian language exam?
- It will be easier to join city life and feel part of the community
- Everyday life becomes simpler: communicating, using services, handling official matters
- More opportunities open up: work, career, and, if needed, citizenship
What does the exam consist of?
- Listening – Tests your ability to understand Lithuanian in dialogues or everyday situations (e.g., in a shop or on public transport).
- Reading – Assesses your ability to understand simple texts, announcements, or everyday information.
- Writing – May require writing a short message, letter, or filling out basic information.
- Speaking – A conversation with an examiner, evaluating your ability to communicate clearly in everyday situations.
Where can you take the exam?
- You can take the exam at the local school in your municipality, or choose other testing locations throughout the country.
- In Vilnius, exams are organized at the Gabrielė Petkevičaitė-Bitė Adult Education Centre
- Kauno st. 43, LT-03203 Vilnius
