Vilnius is going to house a modern hotel of the world’s largest “Marriott” hotel chain
A franchise agreement between the real estate investment company “Hanner” and representatives of the world’s largest “Marriott” hotel chain was signed on November 9, 2016. In the Baltic States this is the first hotel of this international chain. The signing procedure was followed by the announcement of a 4-star Courtyard by Marriott hotel to be opened in Rinktinės street. Moreover, Hanner made a choice of the new hotel operator and signed the hotel management agreement with Apex Alliance Hotel Management, a hotel operator formally approved by the Marriott International. Construction investments will amount to EUR 20 million. The 200-room hotel is to be opened in the middle of 2018.
“More and more tourists are attracted to Vilnius each year, new businesses emerge here, thus a rapid growth of high-end hotels is observed. I am delighted that Vilnius, the open and fast city, the city where according to the EUROSTAT data the happiest Europeans reside, was chosen by the world-famous hotel chain for development,” – said Remigijus Šimašius, Mayor of Vilnius.
The company’s decision to invest in the construction of a four-star hotel has been taken based on analysis data from Hanner and the Department of statistical research. In 2015 alone in Lithuania 1.26 million overnight stays were booked in 4-star hotels, this is almost 6 times more than in 5-star hotels. Since 2012, average annual growth in the number of stays in a 4-star segment in Lithuania amounted to 5.64 percent.
“The public project launches the development of this land plot. One of the main factors that led to our decision to conclude a contract with this chain was the fact that Marriott is the world’s largest hotel chain managing 1.1 million rooms and 5.5 thousand hotels with the best-developed customer loyalty program,” – said Arvydas Avulis, Chairman of the Board of Hanner.
Courtyard by Marriott hotels make guests feel comfortable; modern communication technologies facilitate feeling their business pulse even being abroad. We are happy to launch our activities in the historical capital of Lithuania witnessing a growing demand for modern-design hotels,” – said Markus Lehnert, Marriott International Regional Vice President, Europe.
The 4-star hotel at Rinktinės street will house a restaurant, conference facilities and a terraced bar facing the view of the Gediminas castle. The new hotel will be located next to the future Convention Center to be opened having reconstructed the Vilnius Concert and Sports palace. The hotel was designed by the architect Gintautas Natkevičius.
In 2015 Hanner acquired a nearly 8 hectares land plot in the city center where construction of hotels, business centers and dwelling houses as well as investment of EUR 200 million is planned.
