The New Deputy Mayor of the Vilnius City Municipality – Edita Tamošiūnaitė
During an extraordinary meeting today, the Vilnius City Municipality Council elected the New Deputy Mayor of the Vilnius City Municipality: Edita Tamošiūnaitė, the representative of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania–Christian Families Union and member of the Vilnius City Municipality Council. As Deputy Mayor of the Vilnius City Municipality, she will focus on the sectors of education, non-formal education, culture and energy.
“I am grateful to the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania–Christian Families Union which is a good example of fair and responsible policy and delegates to me these important responsibilities. Today the residents of Vilnius City Municipality are waiting for constructive work and decisions that are good for the city. I am ready to work competently, responsibly and honestly for the residents of Vilnius and to meet their expectations. Special attention is necessary for the suburbs of Vilnius, improvement of infrastructure in the educational institutions and completion of the return of land ownership”, – says Ms Edita Tamošiūnaitė, the newly appointed Deputy Mayor of the Vilnius City Municipality.
In 2007–2013 E. Tamošiūnaitė worked in the Vilnius City Municipality Administration – as Deputy Chief Executive Director for Education, Head of Physical Culture and Sports Department, in 2013–2014 – as Vice-Minister of Education and Science. In 2015 she was elected to the Vilnius City Council and is actively involved in the activities of Committee on Culture, Education and Sports. During the last year E. Tamošiūnaitė also worked as the Head of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group Representation Office in Lithuania.
In 2010, Edita Tamošiūnaitė received a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Mykolas Romeris University, in 2004, at the Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences – a Master’s degree in Education Management and in 1998, she graduated from Vilnius University with a Bachelor’s degree in Lithuanian Philology. She has 14 years of experience in management and 9 years in teaching.
E. Tamošiūnaitė replaces the representative of the Homeland Union–Lithuanian Christian Democrats, Mr Valdas Benkunskas, who was dismissed from the position as Deputy Mayor he had held since 2015, during today’s extraordinary meeting.
