The first Capital Days’ highlight: the famous British rock group Everything Everything
As every year, Vilnius is in for the biggest city festival Capital Days at the first autumn weekend. We will soon see its detailed programme, which, as has already transpired, will include the famous British band Everything Everything. Established in 2007 and by now having participated at the world’s largest music festivals such as Glastonbury in Great Britain, Sziget in Hungary, Hamburg’s Dockville Festival in Germany, and many others, the indie rock band from Manchester has won millions of the hearts for its original style, its energy on stage and impressive performances.
Everything Everything has won a number of prestigious awards: the British Music Producers Guild Award for the Best Single of the Year (Kemosabe, 2014), The Times Award (2009), as many as five times nominations for the Ivor Novello Awards (2011, 2014 , 2018), twice for New Musical Express, once for each – Q Awards, BBC Sound of 2010 and Mercury Prize. The band is working on a spectacular performance for the opening of the biggest Vilnius City Festival. The supporting/opening band to appear on August 31 will be one of the leading alternative rock bands in Lithuania ba.
First time in Lithuania, the British indie rock band Everything Everything has released four albums, fans are fond of their dynamic and varied music, critics have written of the frenzy of it, of the sheer sublime sweet sensory overload of it all. Their fourth album, A Fever Dream, is a quite different prospect: a calibration of chaos and control, the result of a curious desire for consistency. As guitarist Alex Robertshaw puts it: “Our records have been many styles rubbing up against each other, and for the first time I wanted to make a record that was cohesive sonically.” Last year’s album is electronic music interwoven with the motifs of the American heavy music of early 90s.
Everything Everything debuted with the double single Suffragette Suffragette/Luddites and Lambs. The band consists of Jonathan, Jeremy, Alex and Mike, who have known each other since school years. According to one band member, their music was more relaxed at the beginning of their career, with a lot of guitar and no synthesizers. According to him, guitar sounds were much easier to grasp during the concerts, but the band constantly sought to add more sound to their music. Now the band uses a lot of electronic sounds, they call their music frenetic, art-pop juxtapositions of R’n’B and melancholia and Afrobeat, of synths, guitars, falsetto. The band features an extremely eclectic and dynamic style, with sophisticated and dense song designs.
According to the organisers of the Capital Days 2018, who are known for their perfect choice of festival performers, the Everything Everything is definite to deliver a superb show at the Cathedral Square and thus well lead into the weekend festival. Last year, the capital could enjoy on the same occasion the performance by KT Tunstall, a world-renowned British artist. Previous festivals had such stars as De-PHz, Gus Gus, NOHA, Kosheen, Brainstorm, Jazzanova, Dirty Vegas, Digitalism, Who Made Who and others.
The famous British band Everything Everything will stage a show on Friday, August 31, at the Cathedral Square. The largest city festival will take place from August 31 to September 2. All festival events are free.
