Vilnius and 4 other cities have appealed to the UN: secure a no-fly zone over Ukraine

Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Šimašius has initiated an international resolution calling on European cities to apply to the United Nations (UN) for the establishment of a no-fly zone over Ukraine. On the first day, Riga, Tallinn, Gdansk and Tirana joined the resolution, and other cities are expected.

“All free cities are for peace. However, only a few of them dare to say it out loud. We are among those who are not afraid to put loud pressure on the UN to fulfill its moral duty to ban military missiles from flying in the sky over Ukraine. I have no doubt that there will be such organizations to ensure this. Kyiv we have contacts with asks us to do so“, – said R. Šimašius.

According to him, after three weeks of the war, it is clear that Putin will not stop. “However, he can be stopped. Our position is an important tool of pressure. Ukraine, freedom, lives of people need a peaceful sky“, – said Vilnius Mayor.
