Support concerts in Vilnius on the Independence Day of Ukraine
Several events will be held on the 24th of August – the Independence Day of Ukraine – to support the country suffering from war.
The most famous Ukrainian DJs will invite the Vilnius residents and guests to join the solidarity event on the meadow by the White Bridge and thus, to express support to their country. The event will start at 5 pm. DJs Miss Monique and 8kays will be calling the audience to move a little. Later the rhythm will be heated up by a famous duo ARTBAT.
“As we were striving for freedom for a long time, we understand perfectly well the importance of the Independence Day for Ukrainians this year. They have been fighting for half of a year exactly for the right to be citizens of a free and independent country. The Ukrainian courage and resolution inspire us all and the least we can do is to keep providing any possible support to them,” – said Vilnius Mayor, Remigijus Šimašius.
“I am very happy to see so many people supporting Ukrainians in Lithuania. It is a real sign of friendship between the nations. With the help of Lithuania, we will win the war and I hope to celebrate our independence together next year in Kyiv,” – told Oleksandr Sanchenko, Rada member and founder of the Fund “Music Saves UA”.
The humanitarian aid will be collected for victims of the war during the event through the support fund established by the Ukrainian Association of Music Events, “Music Saves UA”: https://1kfund.org/100k/
On the same day, at 7 pm, a free concert of the Lithuanian and Ukrainian performers will be held in Vilnius Town Hall Square. The Lithuanian band “Thundertale”, the Ukrainian band “Taruta”, and the international men choir “Unia” (artistic director Pavel Gonca) are going to perform.
The organisers of multidisciplinary art projects “Walls Have Ears” will start their show on 9:30 pm. They have created a modern video and musical interpretation of the classical Ukrainian works “Flowers and Gunpowder.”
In interpretation of the well-known works of the Ukrainian composers, the Lithuanian musicians – piano player Darius Mažintas and drummer Adas Gecevičius – together with the French bassist and composer and vocalist Ieva Barbora Juozapaitytė are going to refresh them and present to the audience in a new approach.
Video artist Andrius Seliuta is preparing a special premiere for the event. He will use the documentary images from the war zone to revive the topicalities of the neighbouring country and memory of people in his own particular manner, hence, turning the walls of the building of the Town Hall into a special window to neighbouring Ukraine.
During the concert, Vytautas Žarnauskas is going to create a colourful video installation so that the modern technologies would grant a new image to the stiff and conservative space, thus, resulting in pleasant surprise to the event’s attendees.
