Negotiations in Vilnius are officially over: the coalition in the capital will consist of TS-LKD and Laisvės partija
On Monday, representatives of TS-LKD and Laisvės partija signed a coalition agreement and approved the program for coalition works in Vilnius city. The majority in the council of the capital’s municipality consists of 28 members: 19 representatives of TS-LKD faction and 9 members of Laisvės partija faction.
“We already have experience of working together with Laisvės partija, as well as a token of trust, therefore we hope for smooth transition of mentored fields and effective work in the following term of office. We have succeeded in resolving the majority of challenges and ideological differences by negotiations, therefore, finally we have a strong and relevant agenda”, said the new Mayor Valdas Benkunskas.
Together with the elected Mayor Valdas Benkunskas, four more Vice Mayors will mentor work in the municipality’s supervision fields during the following term of office. Two of them will be delegated by TS-LKD faction. Laisvės partija will start the work with a single Vice Mayor, and the second one will be appointed after the entry into force of the new structure of the municipal administration.
“It is the most important to our faction that with the new Mayor and his team we have agreed on the continuity of the essential works; I have no doubt that the principle direction of Vilnius will not change. Vilnius will remain the most attractive place to live. We will have strong Vice Mayors and Committee Heads, who will help to ensure efficient solving of problems”, said Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Šimašius, who is currently finishing his term of office.
Vice Mayors delegated by TS-LKD faction will mentor matters of energy (heating, waste management, administration of multi-dwelling houses, water supply and waste water management), infrastructure, city planning, transport, safe city, health, social security, night economics and culture.
The areas of pre-school, general and informal education, youth matters and sports and wellness matters are mentored by Vice Mayors delegated in the name of Laisvės partija faction.
Adomas Bužinskas representing TS-LKD will be appointed as the Director of Administration.
Five committees of the Capital’s Council: Economics and Finance, Future Vilnius, Social Affairs, Culture and Tourism Affairs, Education Affairs will be chaired by members of TS-LKD faction, and three: Environment and City Services, City Development, Health and Sports Affairs will be chaired by members of Laisvės partija.
