On August 29, 2016, boutique hotel chain, Design Hotels, confirmed it will open one of its hotels in Vilnius Old Town in early 2018.

Housed in the former Pac Palace (Didžioji Street. 7) next to the Town Hall, the five-star hotel will have 105 rooms with 13 suites, and five apartments. Other facilities will include four conference rooms, a restaurant, plus a fitness centre and spa.

Speaking during the press conference, Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Šimašius said he feels that Design Hotels’ decision to come to Vilnius will set a new level of high-standards for the city’s hotel industry. He added that it will increase the city’s appeal to tourists and businesspersons who are not restricted by budget.

Design Hotels will not be the only high-end hotel chain to begin operating in Vilnius towards the end of the decade.

For almost three years, Vilnius has experienced a year-on-year increase of tourists, and based on these statistics, earlier in the year Hilton confirmed it will open one of its mid-range Hilton Garden Inn hotels in Vilnius 2018. It also plans to bring its high-end Double Tree brand to the city in 2019.

The Pac Palace is a historically significant building in the Old Town and is currently undergoing renovation. Dating back to the 16th century, it was originally built for the aristocratic Pac family, and in the past has been visited by historical figures such as Adam Mickiewicz, and Napoleon I.
